Nat Pryce 7/10

BARGAIN BASEMENT And down in the Cheapies Emporium this wee (nothing over £3 considered), is Bristol's answer to Billy Idol, Nat Pryce! FRONTLINE Zeppelin £2.99 Reviewer: Nat Pryce Oh no! You've left your handbag in the war zone and you've got to get it back - you just can't live without your Filofax! Well, actually the bag is really a valuable documents case which you need so you can enter the secret enemy laboratory and steal the plans for the new missile. You've probably guessed by now, having had a gawp at the screenshot, that Frontline is a Rambo clone, in fact it's a very good Rambo clone indeed - so good in fact, that it's even better than the original Rambo, thought that's not saying much. Frontline is a very professionally (whatever that may mean), presented game, from the neat front end to the smooth eight way scrolling. And there are oodles of great graphics, loads of massacre-able soldiers, tanks and pillboxes to be blasted and acres of landscape to be mapped. It'll take ages to complete and at £2.99 offers excellent value for money.

Tony Dillon 7/10

Label: Zeppelin Author: In House Price: £2.99 Memory: 48K/128K Joystick: various Reviewer: Tony Dillon How many bad Commando rip-offs have there been? Too many. You only have to mention games like Who Dares Wins 2 to see the average man in the street cringe. Then again, on the other hand, the left one, how many good Commando rip-offs have there been? Not enough. Frontline is one that fits into the latter category, thankfully. Well, this kind of game can be a little tedious, especially if the action isn't exactly boiling hot. The action in FL doesn't hit you very fast or in great lumps, but it is there to be found. The graphics aren't too wonderful either, as your main character looks like something that one of those men with funny balloons has made. The areas themselves are quite well laid out, though in places it can be a little hard to make out what some objects are. The sound is practically non-existent, just a blip and blop here and there. It plays slightly better than most budget efforts, but not much. OK at the price, but I can't see anyone being really hooked for long.

Producer: Zeppelin Games Retail Price: £2.99 Author: Spike & Michael Owens A top class mercernary has penetrated maximum security headquarters in attempt to get his hands on the secret missile plans housed in the laboratory. Taking the part of this highly trained, heavily equipped, super-fit fighter, the player battles through several multi-directionally scrolling levels in an attempt to locate the coveted blueprints. The enemy camp is brimming with soldiers, armoured tanks, motorbikes and jeeps. Pillboxes and trenches belt out a constant stream of bullets and enemy grenades hurtle through the air. The mercernary's initial arsenal of grenades, mines and bullets can be improved by collecting the additional supplies scattered around each part of the camp. Although major injury is immediately fatal, the player can withstand a limited number of bullets. His decreasing energy rate is indicated on a status display which also shows the current score, number of lives left and amount of ammunition remaining. Each level hides an access pass. Once found, this gives admission to the laboratory which in turn provides information for entry to the next round and another step towards the much-needed plans. COMMENTS Joysticks:: Kempston, Sinclair Graphics: small characters on a simple and colourless background Sound: simple spot effects
