Hi-Tec Spectrum £2.99 In this platform game translation of the Hanna Barbera cartoon characters, Ruff and Reddy have been kidnapped by the Lilli-Punies (great names, huh?) where they learn that some of the other Lilli-Punies have been captured whilst exploring a new planet. You have to earn Ruff and Reddy's freedom by rescuing said captured aliens. There are four areas of alien planet to explore, with twenty Lilli-Punies to rescue. When all's said and done, Ruff and Reddy has a pretty uninspired game design, namely, go around the screens picking up bonuses. However, it's still quite nice to play and at least has appealing graphics. Not the greatest bargain ever, but a decent game nonetheless.

RUFF AND READY Hi-Tec £2.99 Reviewer: Rich Pelley Blimey - here's a turn-up for the so-called book. This one's another ancient cartoon licence thingy from those boys down at Hi-Tec. And, as with all their other games, it's another scrolly arcade adventure thingy. What a surprise, eh? Anyone remember the original Ruff And Reddy cartoon? Ruff was this cat, and Reddy was this dog, and, um, that's all I can remember really. Now, though, after agreeing to test Professor Noodles' Pocket Rocket, they've only gone and crashed it on a planet miles away from anywhere. What clots they are. And if that wasn't bad enough, Reddy's been kidnapped, and the only way Ruff can save him is to rescue some of the aliens' (who are holding Reddy hostage) other chums. Or something like that, anyway. Actually though, who cares? Not me for sure, 'cos all of this is hardly riveting - looks more like an excuse for a walk-about-and- solve-puzzles type game to me, and a not a particularly good one at that. Then again, it's not that bad either - you've got to be fair in this business, y'know. In fact, I've completely changed my mind. Yep, it's now official - I think Ruff And Ready is, in fact, quite good. Blimey, what is going on?

RUFF AND REDDY IN THE SPACE ADVENTURE Hi-Tec Software £2.99 Another game based on blockbusting Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters is here. Following on from the playability of Yogi's Geat Escape, Ruff and Reddy is set to bring you even more enjoyment. Personally I don't remember much about the Ruff and Reddy cartoons so I can't comment of how similar the story lines to the game. It's all based around Ruff and Reddy agreeing to test Professor Flipnoodle's pocket rocket. But at blast off something goes badly wrong and Ruff and Reddy end up lost in deep space. They eventually crash onto a small planet inhabited by little aliens called Lilli-Punies who kidnap them and only agree to their release if they rescue the Lilli-Punies' lost friends. There are 20 to find on each level of the game, and extra energy and bonus points can also be found on the planet. Puzzles have to be solved and each level de-Lillied to complete the game. The graphics to Ruff and Reddy are very similar to those in the other Hitec/ Hanna-Barbera games. Ruff is well animated and bounces around the detailed screens quite well: though, for a cat, he's a bit rigid. Colour in the game varies from level to level with only the scenery being coloured and the main playing areas white monochrome. This is a fun, addictive little game that will keep both fans of the cartoon and playable games happy for some time. Try the level featured on the CRASH cover tape!

Label: HiTec Price: £2.99 Reviewer: Chris Jenkins Prepare for a cutesy overload as the latest batch of Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters hits your computer screen courtesy of HiTec Software. Now I can't help feeling that a certain amount of bottom-of-the-barrel-scraping is going on, as some of these characters are not exactly in your world-famous Mickey Mouse, Pink Panther, Garfield category, or even Yogi Bear, which has already appeared from HiTec. I mean, hands up if you've heard of Ruff and Reddy the cartoon dog and cat? One... two... six... oh alright, some of you have. But I'm still waiting for HiTec's Atom Ant game, 'cos I still remember Atom Ant's theme song. Anyway, Tom and Jerry these two ain't, but the fluffy moppets come together to star in a pretty creditable first outing, and remember it's only £2.99. Here's the plot - try not to gag. Ruff and Reddy have agreed to test Professor FLipnoodle's Pocket Rocket. (Gharg). Something goes terribly wrong, and the two find themselves stranded on the planet of the Lilli-Punies (Eehurg). Some of me Lilli-Punies have been lost on a nearby planet, and Ruff and Reddy are pressed into service to find and rescue them. The actual game features Ruff, the cat, searching through the alien planet for the missing Lilli-Punies, who look like gnomes with rotor blades on their heads. Nice backgrounds with parallax scrolling, well-animated figures and excellent game music make this a cut above the average arcade adventure, and you'll soon find that despite the cutesy characters, the game's as hard as they come (well, harder than Snoopy on laxatives anyway). While leaping from rock to rock collecting food and rescuing the Lilli-Punies, Ruff has to avoid snarling ball-shaped monsters and patrolling robots. On later levels set in caverns deep underground, he also has to avoid getting his ickie-pritty fur wet in the nasty water. There are four levels to complete and 20 Lilli-Punies to rescue overall. You'll need split-second reactions, a good deal of forward planning and a strong stomach to complete Ruff and Reddy - don't be put off by the slop, this is not just one for the kiddies, and should test the skills of the most wild-eyed, machine-gun-toting arcade fanatic.

Ruff risks life and limb to take care of the bouncing balls while Reddy... er, has a nice bowl of Winalot or something.
