Throbby Heartache Review KTB Productions PWYW / $2 Mpk's Review Ah, young love! Having, presumably, overcome his headache, Robby and his main squeeze Roberta find themselves collecting love hearts. I imagine that's a metaphor of some kind. Perhaps he needs to make up for his complaining about his sore head. Men, eh? Bunch of babies. Regardless, Throbby Heartache builds on the engine of Throbbing Headache, delivering another 20 levels of unique platforming. The stressy techno trimmings of the original are replaced with hearts and cherubs, and you get to select which of the doting couple you want to control, Ant Attack-style. The characters handle precisely the same, although Roberta starts on the right-hand slide of each level, while Robby starts on the left. As mentioned in the Throbbing Headache overview to my left, the key to both games is the unique jumping mechanic. The mix of strong vertical jumps and dynamic horizontal leaps offers a unique twist to what could be otherwise very familiar gameplay. Coupled with devious level design tailored to your mobility, both games feel thoroughly fresh. THDX is the latest version of the engine, but the levels and gameplay in Heartache are on a par. Both are heartily recommended.

TAKE 3 WITH MEALS? Sometimes games can take years between sequels, but not here! Throbbing Headache released on Jan 19. The was followed rapidly by Throbby Heartache in time for Valentine's Dayin February, with the upgraded Throbbing Headache DX arriving on Feb 24. Rumour has it there's another game planned in the series this year. No rest for the Throbby!
